As an Endonephrologist Metabolist, Dr. Sloan has expertise in Endocrinology (glandular disorders), Nephrology (kidney diseases), Diabetes, Hypertension, Lipid Disorders, Osteoporosis, Obesity and Nutrition.

He is one of only a few physicians in the world who has this unique combination of expertise. This allows him to diagnose and treat the whole body as well as provide nutrition education; all of which is specifically tailored to meet each patient’s individual needs.

In addition, Dr. Sloan is the only physician to be recognized by the American Association of Clinical Nephrologists, American Society of Nephrology, and American College of Physicians as a Fellow in all three specialty organizations. Fellowship in any specialty is a recognition that goes above and beyond board certification.

He is recognized by his peers in more than one specialty for his expertise and commitment to learning, teaching, research and patient care. Dr. Sloan has been selected to sit on multiple committees and task forces for the American Association of Clinical Nephrologists, Renal Physicians Association, American Society of Nephrology, Endocrine Society, Texas Medical Association and Angelina County Medical Society. He was a past president of the Texas Chapter of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, Texas Endocrine Society for 5 years, and Angelina County Medical Society. Dr. Sloan has been a member of the Texas Diabetes Council Health Care Professionals Committee for over two decades. This committee writes the state guidelines for diabetes care and advises the Governor of Texas and the Texas Legislature on Diabetes related issues. He also visits Congress and the Texas Legislature frequently where he lobbies for the above organizations and his patients to try and improve our medical system. “ I don’t believe in just complaining about the system. I believe in being actively involved in changing the system to improve healthcare for my patients and others.”

Dr. Sloan has been the Angelina County Society delegate to the Texas Medical Association for over two decades. He has also been on various hospital committees at both Woodland Heights and CHI Memorial Hospitals in Lufkin, TX.

Dr. Sloan is involved in community-based research and publishes several scholarly articles a year. In addition, he speaks nationally and internationally at various medical conferences and meetings.

He is well respected in the pharmaceutical industry where he consults and is a member of multiple advisory boards (names of the pharmaceutical companies provided on request).

His research interests include diabetes, insulin resistance syndrome, chronic kidney disease, hypertension, obesity, atherosclerosis, CHF, and lipid metabolism. He has served as the principal investigator for several dozen trials and his work has been published in various relevant journals. He is a member of the editorial board of Endocrine Practice, Clinical Diabetes, and Nephrology News & Issues and is a reviewer for several other journals.
